The International Criminal Court is facing challenging times. Late last year, three nations – Burundi, Gambia and South Africa – indicated their intentions to leave the ICC. This is unprecedented in the ICC’s 15-year history. In this article for the Rule of Law Institute of Australia, I examine the implications of these events for the ICC as a pillar of the international rule of law.
